I would only buy it after at least 3 guitar lessons to make sure you really enjoy it and are devoted. I bought all that stuff before and once i started I realised i didn’t really like it much and now I’m stuck with all the equipment

Rent a guitar for 1 month which is the correct thing to do. Tell the music store that you want to see if you like it. Ask the person to give you some form of credit on the purchase of a new guitar after the rental.
Nine times out of 10, he or she will agree. You are killing two birds with one stone. If you don’t like it, you only lost the rental and if you like it, you have a chance to get part of your money mback and will serve as a good down payment if the people are cool.

Rent a guitar first. Unfortunately, where I live and the music store I go to they don’t rent out instruments.
If that’s the case with music stores near you, then you have no choice but to buy one.
Of course you’ll need a guitar before taking lessons. You’re gonna learn things from the minute you set foot in that practice room and you need that guitar.

If you think learning to play the guitar is all about BUYING STUFF.. then you need to take a few lessons to see if you even like it…. you will chew up your fingernails and complain about the tips of your fingers hurting and complain that your hands are too small and the guitar teacher doesn’t understand you and yells at you etc.
Take a few lessons and THEN and ONLY THEN should you go out and BUY SOMETHING

i would buy a guitar, but not take lessons! learn to play by yourself, it’s how i learned (:
