How do I unlock my iPhone 3G so that it can work with another carrier?

Irvine CA asked:

I’m being screwed by AT&T and their rate plans for the iPhone 3G. Is there an effective way to unlock my phone so that it can work with another carrier like T-Mobile? I heard of this company called YESSIM that makes sim cards that can unlock the iPhone 3G. Any thoughts on this? Your input is highly appreciated.

Soak the phone in water for about 20 minutes. It dissolves the lock strip but leaves the phone unharmed.

of couse you can unlock the iPhone 3G

please visit the Dev-Team site :

they are the ones who unlocked and jailbroked the iPhone

    1) Download pwnagetool or QuickPwn if your on Mac

    2) Download WinPwn if your a Windows user.

Procedure is listed in the above site and also lot of other sites as well.

you can do it yourself if you have a pc and internet, no need to pay any third pary guy some 10 or 15 bucks.

try google with : Gizmodo , for more procedures / articles.

    hope this helps.

There is no actual unlock for the iPhone 3G yet. However you are in luck there are workarounds like YESSIM or Universal SIM that will accomplish what you want to do.

These devices attach to your SIM card and spoof an AT&T SIM to the iPhone 3G. Your iPhone 3G will appear unlocked and you will see and receive T-Mobile service.

I used both the TurboSIM and Hyper-Card for the first generation iPhone and they both worked pretty well.

Using these devices though are not without risk depending on where you live spoofing a AT&T SIM to your phone could be seen as tampering with the cell phone network. You should check your local laws. Also the iPhone Dev Team says there may be some technical reprecussions should you choose to use any future (currently non-existant) free software unlock for the iPhone 3G.

In conclusion if you NEED to use your iPhone 3G on T-Mobile go for it but you’ll have to buy one of those devices, here is an amazon link:

    Hello,
YESSIM card is out of style, It need cut your network card.
Maybe you have heard of universal sim card, But it works not very
stable with iphone. There have been a newly updated sim card that
can unlock 3g iphone even with newest firmware 2.1.
And it is very simple for using, You don’t need to cut your network card. If you don’t want to unlock you iphone. Just take the unlock sim card off your iphone, The iphone then returen locked.
This is very simple and safe ffor unlock 3g iphone
