pat asked: Users don’t have to pay any monthly fees and they have access to free 3G internet. What’s in it for 3G provider? Is it included in Kindle price? If there wasn’t free 3G, would Kindle be cheaper?

The new Kindle has a model with only Wi-Fi but not 3G wireless, it is $50 cheaper than 3G version:
That means $50 covers the 3G wireless fee. Since Kindle’s internet browser is quite basic, it cannot be used to play video, only text and pictures. Most people go to text-heavy sites like Google, Wikipedia, check email, etc. The amount of data transfer is not too high, that’s why $50 may possibly cover the cost. And I think Amazon earns most of the money from selling Kindle books and physical books, not the Kindle device.
And Amazon just announced new models of the Kindle reader. I’ve mentioned quite a lot about the new Kindle, which model to choose, and full list of where to get free books, in another answer here:
Hope it helps

Probably about $50 cheaper as that’s the difference in price between the 3G version and the WiFi only version
