Why should I get an HD TV if things will look worse?
KLX$_13 asked:
I still have a regular TV and need a lot of convincing before upgrading to high definition. Why is it I keep hearing and reading complaints in reviews for HD movies and video games where a lot of them say the games and movies look fuzzy, edges look jagged and the picture quality seems to be worse than the regular non-HD versions of those games and films? If the picture ends up looking worse in high definition, then what’s with all the hype and high prices for these new HDTVs?

I have an old style, big box panasonic tv and a Toshiba plasma screen.
The Panasonic gives a far superior picture even though it is Analogue compared to the digital HD Toshiba.
The advantage of the plasma is that it takes up considerably less room even though it has a much larger screen, it also looks far more stylish

To be honest, I wouldn’t break the bank over getting one. Sure, they’re nice to look at, sharp picture and great sound but if you are happy with your regular TV and don’t want to upgrade to the new, why should you? I think HDTV is wonderful but if you can’t afford it OR if you just don’t desire it, why even bother? It will be cheaper in a few years and you’re confortable with the one you have. I’d forget it for a bit and just get the converter.

Lol that’s funny. Provide some links with examples and maybe some of us can determine why is that. The complaints I’m hearing sound more like DVD upscaling or regular DVD movies on HDTV, and not HD material on HDTV. I can tell you from my perspective that HD movies and ps3 games look far better on my 1080p plasma display than on my projector tv, or crt tv. No jaggies, no fuzzyness. Just crisp clean video footage. On the other hand, my dvd movies look like crap on my HDTV, even with upscaling, but that’s normal.

ok you dont know what you are talking about, you are watching a standard format on a hdtv which might be fuzzy at times but still o.k.
But when you watch true hd like 1080i/1080p in that format you will
see how much better it is.
